Wolfmother is an Australian hard rock band that was formed in 199The band, which was founded in 2000 by singer and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett, is now comprised of Stockdale, Ian Peres (bass, keyboards), and Vin Steele (drums) (drums). It was in October 2005 when Wolfmother debuted with their self-titled first album, which peaked at number three on the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia.
As well as commercial success, the album received critical acclaim, earning the 2005 J Award as well as the 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album as well as Best Rock Album. In 2006, the band received a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Woman,” which was taken from the album. Stockdale chose to continue using the Wolfmother name with new musicians after co-founding members Ross and Heskett quit the band in August 2008 owing to “irreconcilable personal and artistic disagreements.” Stockdale reformed with a new four-piece band in January 2009, which included current member Peres, rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth, and drummer Dave Atkins, after a short break.
The sole studio album by the new lineup, named Cosmic Egg, was released in October 2009 and peaked at the same position on the Australian chart as Wolfmother. With Atkins’ departure from the band in April 2010 following heavy touring, Will Rockwell-Scott of garage rock band The Mooney Suzuki was brought in to fill the void. After completing Cosmic Egg in 2011, the band began work on the follow-up album, but further lineup changes in February 2012 (Steele replacing Nemeth, Rosser taking over for Rockwell-Scott, and Hammond joining the band) caused the band’s recording progress to be delayed. The resultant album, Keep Moving, was finished in early 2013 and released in March under Stockdale’s name, rather than that of Wolfmother, as a solo project.
