George E. Stewart was Late Lusia Harris’ high school sweetheart whom she got married to on February 4, 1977.
Before George passed on, he coached basketball at Amanda Elzy High School for 25 years.
His wife, Lusia Harris-Stewart was an American Basketball player, and one of the pioneers of women’s basketball. She passed away on January 18, 2022.
The couple was blessed with two sons, Eddie and Christopher, and a set of twin daughters- Crystal and Christina.
Lusia led Delta State into three consecutive championships from 1975-1977 for Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW). She was the first woman to score a basket at the Olympic in 1976 and in that year, the U.S won a silver medal.
The queen of basketball was the first woman ever to be drafted by the National Basketball Association (NBA), a men’s professional basketball league. For her achievements, Harris was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
Harris was confined to a wheelchair as a result of rheumatoid arthritis. She died at the age of 66.
